Additional Information

In memory & honor of the victims of Hurricane Sandy & the recent Sandy Hook Massacre, I ask you all to join us in the “Sandy 4 Sandy” sunset vigil and charity donation event at: “Moose’s Gazebo” (across from Kubel’s) at 8th & the bay in Barnegat Light on Long Beach Island, NJ: Saturday, December 29, 2012 starting @ 4pm.  **For directions, please use: #28 W. 7th St., Barnegat Light, NJ 08006.  "Old Barney”, our local lighthouse, is a symbol of strength and community, and I hope our gathering near it will help the light shine brighter in a sign of peace: out over the ocean to the rest of the world.

-Bring donations for local our charities (so far the only confirmed charity is “Toys for Tots”, so please bring new, unwrapped toys for them!)

-Come prepared for weather since this is an outdoor event (warm & rainproof clothing just in case).

-Feel free to bring your signs of protest for peace, but (again) leave your anger on the mainland.

-Bring candles/lighters/matches, but also bring flashlights in case it’s too windy.

***Until further notice, please note that no other charities are affiliated with this event thus far, and any other that may be present could be scammers.  So please only donate to “Toys for Tots”.  Check back for updates!

Schedule:

3:30pm – Charity groups please arrive and find me at the gazebo.

4:00pm – General public please arrive, and begin donations and gathering.

sunset – gather for a brief speech.

sundown – lighting our candles in a moment of silence, forgiveness, and thoughts of a brighter future, then releasing floating luminaries out over the bay.

After vigil - everyone is invited to join us at Kubel’s Restaurant & Bar (across the street) to share a night of being thankful for all of the good things in our lives, and exchange ideas on how to better the lives of others. All are welcome, as this is not an islander-exclusive event.  It’s for anyone who believes in peace. All living beings deserve a chance at a happy & healthy life, free of hunger, abuse, prejudice, poverty, war, and most of all: violence.  So please leave any religious & political views, grudges, and pain on the mainland – and join us for a night of peace.  Let us remember those affected by these sordid catastrophes, and show our stance as shining light in support of each other. www.facebook.com/SupportSandyVictims
