EHT Walmart to Hold Grand Opening Wednesday
Construction is complete, surrounding streets have been reconfigured, associates have been hired, shelves are stocked and they are ready for their grand opening this Wednesday at the new Walmart in Egg Harbor Township.
After years of delays and legal wrangling, the Walmart SuperCenter at Fire Road and the Black Horse Pike officially opens at 7am Wednesday, July 19 and the store has a 4-day celebration planned.
The Wal-Mart, built on the site of the former Atlantic City Electric corporate headquarters, is expected to generate approximately $1 million per year in tax revenues for the township and provide more than 300 jobs.
Developer Steve Wolfson has been planning this Wal-Mart-anchored shopping center since 2003. The project encountered several delays, including a lawsuit filed against Egg Harbor Township and its Planning Board by the owners of ShopRite supermarkets.
According to a press release, the store's opening-day events will begin Wednesday with an appearance by Tastykake brand character Kirby the Krimpet from 9 am to noon. Face painting and ice cream floats will be available from 10 am to 2 pm, and the Philly Phanatic appears from 11:30-12:30 pm.
