Rumors that Ed Sheeran's face had been sliced open by a sword-wielding Princess Beatrice became almost mythic in scale back in November.

Ever since the BBC claimed that Sheeran's facial scar had been the result of a mock knighting-gone-wrong during a costume party, the British singer-songwriter had gone nearly silent on the matter... until now.

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday (January 20), the "Shape of You" musician cryptically told the host, "I can't talk about it... I don't know what will happen if I do!"

Sheeran added that he had "no idea" how the story about Princess Beatrice's alleged sword accident (which reportedly took place while she was jokingly attempting to "knight" singer James Blunt) became public.

"There weren’t a lot of people there that night," he shared. "For two weeks after, I had a huge gash on my face and would tell people I fell and then suddenly, the story came out..." Cutting himself off, Sheeran quickly added, "The alleged story came out."

However, aside from joking that it was actually "James Blunt trying to get his career back" who sliced and diced him, the pop star basically confirmed the original story when he shared an anecdote about the aftermath of his injury.

"I remember telling my dad about it and he didn’t believe me," Sheeran recalled. "[He] said, 'No, what really happened?'"

Well, now we know... sorta. Anyway. Watch below:
