Hamilton Township Police responded to a fiery car crash before sunrise Monday morning.

Just before 4:00 Monday morning, officers responded to McCall Avenue in Mays Landing for a single-car crash. An investigation revealed a pick-up truck driven by 42-year-old Heiko Fehr of Mays Landing was traveling southbound on McCall Avenue when it left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then caught fire. After the crash, Fehr fled the scene on foot, but was later located by a K-9 as he was attempting to hide from police. Fehr surrendered and he was taken into custody without incident.

Fehr did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Fehr was charged with resisting arrest, driving while suspended, leaving the scene of an accident, and other related motor vehicle offenses. Traffic was diverted around the area for approximately two hours while the accident was investigated and the scene was cleared of debris.
