A study shows that sleeping late on weekends may help improve your overall health and reduce the risk of diabetes.

According to a study published in Diabetes Care, getting little sleep during the week can be increasing your risk for diabetes. Researchers noticed that when their participants didn't sleep for four nights, there seemed to be changes in their blood. Apparently, their bodies weren't handling sugar as well as they should have.

But, when they got extra sleep for the next two nights, their blood tests went back to normal reversing the effects of not sleeping.

Just keep in mind, the study doesn't prove that sleeping late EVERY weekend will not reverse poor sleeping habits OR prevent diabetes. Still, getting the appropriate amount of sleep has been shown to lower your risk of other health problems like obesity, high blood pressure, and memory ability.

So, if you find yourself sleeping a little extra this weekend. Don't beat yourself up about it, you might actually benefit from it!
