As part of Disney's seemingly unending quest to remake the entirety of its animated film catalog into live-action movies, the studio has officially announced a release date for its forthcoming Mulan reboot.

The movie is currently set for a late 2018 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Disney has also reportedly launched a global search for a Chinese actress to play the film’s titular role.

Considering Hollywood's penchant for whitewashing its casts — The Last Airbender, Doctor Strange and Ghost in the Shell are recent examples — that’s at least a good sign, and perhaps a response to a fan-started petition calling for Disney to hire a Chinese actress to play Mulan, which was created when the live-action remake was first announced back in March.

Details about the forthcoming Mulan reboot are otherwise scarce. Disney reportedly purchased a spec script written by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek that details the legend of Hua Mulan, and have used it as a frame of reference "for a more nuanced and elaborate adaptation.”

The new script, rewritten by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, will reportedly incorporate elements of both the original Chinese ballad and the 1998 animated movie.

No director has been announced for Mulan yet, but Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner have signed on to produce.

Mulan will hit theaters on November 2, 2018. But for those of you unable to wait a full two years to see Disney rehash yet another childhood favorite better left untouched, consider checking out the upcoming Beauty and the Beast remake, starring Emma Watson, which opens on March 17, 2017.
