Drivers in South Jersey needing to use the Delaware Memorial Bridge tonight, and possibly tomorrow morning, should be advised that it has been closed because of a reported gas leak.

All lanes of the bridge remain shut down at this hour, according to 6abc.com.

The Delaware Department of Transportation reports the chemical gas Ethylene Oxide, an extremely flammable gas, is to blame and air quality is currently at unsafe levels. The bridge will reportedly not reopen until those levels are stabilized, fire official George Greenley tells 6abc.

The chemical gas allegedly emanated from a nearby chemical plant that that manufactures adhesives, lubricants and other products. The Courier Post reports that approximately 70 percent of the chemical tank escaped into the atmosphere.

The DMB closure, should it last till morning, will post a major issue for commuters. Tune to SoJO 104.9 for the latest from South Jersey's Own Traffic w/Jill Myra starting at 5:30 a.m.
