The new restrictions will affect the kinds of events New Jersey craft brewery owners can hold at their establishment.

As of September 24th, the New Jersey Alcohol & Beverage Control passed a ruling that will limit the number of charity fundraisers and special events the breweries can hold in a year. The ABC will even get a say in how many televisions (if any) an establishment can have on, and may event trickle down to music, the presence of food trucks, and trivial activities like, well, trivia games.

Several local breweries play host to events like wedding receptions, etc., which they count on for promoting it's products and generating revenue.

Some of the changes breweries are facing, as reported by NJ.com, include:

  • Breweries can now only hold 25 “special events,” such as paint and sip nights, trivia nights, live televised sporting events and live music nights.
  • Breweries are limited to 12 special permits a year to sell products off the brewery premises such as festivals, athletic events, and other civic events.
  • Breweries are limited to 52 private parties (birthdays, weddings, anniversaries) a year.
  • They must electronically notify the ABC 10 days prior to holding the event

A petition pushing back against the new ruling has been established by the website BrewedIndependent.org asking craft brewery enthusiasts to support their cause. However, area bars and clubs are likely happy with the ruling, as craft brewery-hopping has become a trendy activity in New Jersey.

Regrann from @lowerforgebrewery - Friends, we need your help. We enjoy the level of community involvement we have by hosting events such as Trivia, Open Mic, & Fundraiser events that partner with non profits. NJ has handed down a ruling that effectively ends these events, along with other absurd antibusiness regulations. Please help us and the other NJ Breweries by sharing this info and signing the petition to reverse this ruling.
