A 19 year old rider from Pennsylvania died while competing at Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove, Salem County, at the 2016 season opener on Saturday night.

Coy Lutz was riding in the bareback competition when he was bucked off and trampled by the horse. Lutz was immediately taken to the hospital by paramedics where he was pronounced dead.

According to Grant Harris, the owner of Cowtown Rodeo, Coy Lutz was the first death at the historic Cowtown Rodeo, which boasts that it is the longest running weekly rodeo in America. The rodeo has been operating Saturday nights during the Summer since 1929.

 

Lutz was from a small town in central Pennsylvania and was a student at The University of Tennessee - Martin, where he was on the rodeo team.
