Construction on Fire Road Continues… and Continues… and Continues

Will the road work on Fire Road at the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township ever end?

Work began last summer at the old Atlantic City Electric facility at that corner -- that huge plot of land was bulldozed and construction on a new 190,000 square foot Walmart and shopping center has been moving at a very fast pace. But the one thing that doesn't seem to be moving at a fast pace is the road work surrounding the new store.

Now I know that once the store opens it will be great for the surrounding area and the tax revenue for the township will be beneficial, but the road work is awful.

In addition to the three new traffic lights around the store, drivers have been dealing with delays every morning and closed roads for days at a time.

I drove over there a few days ago and Fire Road was nicely paved, new turn lanes were in, and traffic was moving great -- I thought everything was done.

No.

Last Friday at lunch time the road was closed again and everyone was being detoured through a Wawa parking lot... have you ever seen two lanes of traffic pushed through a Wawa? Brutal.

I asked how you felt about the situation on my Facebook page and I'm not the only one who feels this way...

The good news is Walmart is now hiring and the store is expected to open later this year so hopefully things will get back to normal shortly. Hang in there!
