Monday was not your typical day at the Our Lady of Mercy Academy as the students, staff and many in the surrounding neighborhood mourned the death of Phillip Caporale, who died on Sunday.

Thomas Barlas of The Press of Atlantic City reported today that OLMA office staff took condolence calls all morning from members of the clergy, the community and other schools.  The shocking passing of Caporale - a 31-yr-old Vineland native - happened around 5am on Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Harding Highway near St. George Street in Franklin Township.

Caporale was the soccer coach at OLMA, the all girl's high school with about 150 students.  The coach had won 101 games during his tenure for the Villagers.

NBC 40 says the accident is still under investigation.
