The locally favorite Columbus Farmers Market in Burlington County caught fire today, a bad blow heading into holiday shopping season.  The blaze is currently under control.

The flames began tearing through the farmers market located off Route 206 in Columbus, N.J. (the state's oldest and largest) just after 2 p.m. this afternoon, quickly accelerating to a four alarm fire.

Firefighters had to contend with today's high winds when taming the inferno. More than 150 firefighters were on hand.

The fire chief said crews were able to contain the blaze to building 4, 6abc.com reports, but still managed to damage 10 businesses in all.

Fortunately, no one needed to be evacuated and no one was injured as this time of year the market is closed on Tuesdays.

It remains unclear if the market will be able to reopen by Thanksgiving Day, normally a very busy shopping day.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
