Thousands were without electricity, downed trees were blocking roadways, utility poles were destroyed and debris was scattered all over sections of South Jersey, the result of a severe thunderstorm.
Atlantic City Electric has apparently met its goal of having 90% of those who lost power during Saturday’s storm back on line by midnight Wednesday night.
Its a dark Independence Day for thousands of Atlantic City Electric customers four days after powerful thunderstorms brought down trees and power lines throughout the area.
Tens of thousands of customers remain without power in South Jersey today – following a series of violent thunderstorms that rolled across the region at the end of last week causing widespread damage and outages.
Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs warned residents about the ways they could be cheated or scammed, and they warned merchants not to take advantage of those in need.

Utility crews are back out today restoring power to South Jersey a day after violent thunderstorms rolled through the area on Saturday morning bringing down utility wires and more trees than Hurricane Irene.
An overnight curfew is in effect for all towns in Atlantic County, except for Atlantic City. Emergency Management officials instituted the curfew in the wake of widespread power outages in South Jersey.
The curfew will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday, at which time officials will reevaluate their “game plan”, so to speak.
