In hopes of Trump Taj Mahal to stay open, Trump Entertainment gave Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union a chance to drop their  appeal of a court-ordered cost-cutting package.

The deadline to appeal was 5:00 yesterday afternoon, to which the union gave no response.  With 3,000 more people in Atlantic City potentially without jobs after this week, this is a major blow.  Trump Taj Mahal is scheduled to close 6AM Saturday morning.

Bob Griffin, CEO of Trump Entertainment, gave an ultimatum to Local 54 President Bob McDevitt in a form of a letter stating that 'the casino would cease operations Dec. 20 if officials at UNITE HERE Local 54 did not drop its appeal of a bankruptcy court-ordered plan that canceled employee health insurance and pension plans to reduce the casino’s operating costs.' If the union was to withdrawal, Billionaire Carl Ichan has plans to take over the casino.  A deal has to get done in the couple days, otherwise, we'll see yet another casino in Atlantic City close it's doors.
