A 10-year old boy on his way to a sleepover was struck and killed by a traveling police cruiser Sunday night just off Route 47 in Gloucester County

The accident happened at at the intersection of Delsea Drive and Paul Street in Franklin Twp. around 7:00 p.m. last night, 6abc.com reports.

Family members say Matt McCloskey, 10, and two other boys were crossing the street together, one boy making it safely across, another boy was about to cross, while the victim was struck in the middle of the road while crossing and pronounced dead at the scene. The father of the two young boys who were with the victim was in a truck with his girlfriend and says they were trailing behind the boys when they saw the victim get hit.

A witness claims the cop car did not display flashing sirens at the time of the accident. It has not yet been confirmed if the officer behind the wheel of that cruiser was en route to a call but the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office tells Action News an investigation is underway. That officer was treated at an area hospital for unknown injuries.
