Boy Battling Cancer Dreams of Mailbox Full of Christmas Cards

Most kids have a long wish list for the holidays, one young boy has a simple request— a mailbox full of holiday cards.

Andrew Russell, of Quinlan, Texas, was diagnosed with ependymoma, a rare form of brain cancer, in 2006.

That same year, Brianne Sparkman heard of Andrew’s struggle while listening to a radio Christmas wish special and started an effort to make his wish come true by collecting cards from the community.

"I was able to collect so many cards that I had about three boxes full when I showed up to grant his wish," Sparkman told WFAA. "To this day, Andrew still has each of those cards."

Now, Sparkman is renewing her campaign to collect Christmas cards. For those who are feeling extra generous, she encourages the addition of a gift card. Some of Andrew’s favorite places are Applebee’s, Best Buy and Celebration Station.
