The body discovered near the 25th street beach in Ocean City today is that of missing boat captain David McAuliffe, New Jersey State Police have confirmed.

NBC40.net reports reports that Ocean City public works crews came upon the body washed up on the shore at around 5:45 a.m..  McAuliffe's family arrived to the beach this morning after authorities notified them about the discovery of the body days after the sunken vessel was discovered.  The victim is in the custody of the Medical Examiner pending autopsy.

The Sea Tow Captain was piloting the boat Cape Hatteras when it sank near the Great Egg Harbor Inlet.  The Coast Guard is investigating what may have led to the boat's sinking.  McAuliffe was venturing from Atlantic City to Somers Pointlast week when the Cape Hatteras' emergency beacon sent a distress signal around 10:45 Tuesday morning.
