A fire broke out at a Deptford apartment complex Sunday, injuring five residents.

The fire broke out at Chestnut Lane Apartments just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, trapping five people on the second floor, 6abc.com reports.

The injured were rescued by firefighters and transported to area hospitals for treatment.

Fire officials say fighting the flames became difficult because nearby hydrants were blocked by parked cars.

The blaze reportedly moved across the building's attic, destroying eight apartment units, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
