Authorities in Burlington County say one person has been killed after a car plunged into the Delaware River.

An accident involving a Ford Taurus occurred around 1 p.m. Sunday along 138 Riverbank, 6abc.com reports. The vehicle swiped a parked car then landed in the Delaware, killing a woman and injuring a man. Police say witnesses helped the driver out of the water, but then he took off on foot. According to Courier Post, the victim was trapped inside the sedan as it sank. The man was found and taken to a hospital a short time later.
