An unexpected high amount of bacteria, that is the kind of stuff associated with human and animal waste, has been found on NINE beaches along the Jersey Shore.

The beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, as opposed to back bays, were the ones found to be most contaminated which is unusual, according to experts.

A major coastal storm out at sea may be one of the reasons bacteria levels are high, some are guessing.

If you are hitting the shore for Labor Day Weekend, here are the beaches that had the highest levels of bacteria concentration:

  • Ocean Grove...Spray Avenue
  • Surf City...North 10th Street
  • Ship Bottom...South 3rd Street
  • Ship Bottom...14th Street
  • Long Beach Township...Stockton Avenue
  • Beach Haven...Taylor Avenue
  • Beach Haven...Leeward Street
  • Long Beach Township...Joan Road
  • Wildwood...Bennett Avenue
