Within the last 24 hours, one stretch of road has the honor of being the first in America to have a Speed Limit of 85.

The new 41-mile-long section of the Texas 130 tollway south of Austin in route to San Antonio has the honor of being the first 85 MPH road.  SoJO first reported on this story back in June when the announcement happenned.

The Texas Dept. of Transportation reports that 85 MPH is safe given the design of the 4-lane divided expressway, or at least no less safe than if the limit were 5 or 10 MPH less.

There are some that say higher speed limits has drivers driving faster, bringing more accidents, and with greater force.  So the question that needs to be ask in "How Fast is Too Fast for a Speed Limit?"
