First dates are always awkward and hard to master no matter how many times you do it. But there are some first date mistakes to avoid.
Personally, I have never been great at first dates. Something always goes wrong or it gets extremely awkward. It is the first time you get to test the waters with this person and see what they are really all about. The chances of you becoming weird or saying the wrong thing are so high. Now, it's Friday night and that really attractive man you've been eyeing all week has finally asked you out on a date.  Well, I have a list of five first date mistakes that you can avoid.

    Lateness

I have such a terrible habit of arriving everywhere late. But that is exactly what it is: a terrible habit. When you come late to a first date, it leaves a terrible impression on your date. If you know you are going to be late, shoot them a text and give them that courtesy.

    Talking About Your Ex

This is ALWAYS a no. You would not like to hear your date discuss their ex constantly on the first date and neither should you. If I hear my date talking about their ex, I am led to believe you may not be completely over him or her.

    Not Asking Questions

Why are you on a date if you are not interested in getting to know the person? Ask them about their life, family, interests. This is the perfect moment to do so. AND bonus: they will like that you are interested.

    Don’t Check Your Phone

It is so very tempting and maybe a habit to check your phone. But unless this date is going really bad and you need to text someone to help you get out of it, leave your phone alone! If it so dire, excuse yourself and go elsewhere to check.

    Discussing Your Ideal Wife/Husband

I went on a date one time where he told me what he expected out of his wife after a long work day. In addition, he went on to say that him and I would have really cute children. Not only did I discover I probably am not what he is looking for in a potential wife, but it was completely creepy to hear him predict children. This topic tends to turn people off...unless you fit the description.
