It was a nice way to start the new week getting some one-on-one time with Nia Franklin, our new Miss America.

Nia told me she had a 5:30 a.m. wake up call to visit SoJO this morning, her time on the job likely to begin the same way every day as Miss America keeps up a rigorous schedule. But Franklin seems to be basking in her time in the spotlight, just 8 days removed from earning the title at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

The one thing that struck me about Nia Franklin was the same thing I thought watching her compete for Miss America. She is extremely poised and seems born for the role. We chatted about the competition's new format (which focuses less on the appearance of the candidates), how she plans to use her time as Miss America to support her platform (arts in education), and how it feels to go from anonymity to famous in a week.
